About our Program

Peer Mentor Program

A Peer Mentor is a former acquired brain injury patient who has walked through some of the same challenges that you or your loved one are facing. Peer Mentors have completed training as a Gaylord volunteer, and additional training to become a Peer Mentor. The goal of this program is to provide additional support to patients and families by providing a team of trained individuals who can relate to your current situation and act as role models and or resources for your time at Gaylord.

Who are the peer mentors?
Who benefits from a peer mentor?
When do visits take place?

What Gaylord volunteers are saying:

“I recently retired and wanted something fulfilling that I could be a part of. Gaylord offered several volunteer opportunities and helped me find one that benefits my skills and interest.”
“I feel like I get back more than I give by helping others. I really feel appreciated by the patients
and the staff at Gaylord.”
“I started to volunteer because I wanted to give back to my community, but I get back so much joy and fulfillment knowing I’m making a difference.”

The Gaylord Sports Association is Gaylord's adaptive sports program, which provides adaptive sports opportunities for people who have a physical disability or visual impairment. We are continuously recruiting the more than 150 volunteers needed each year to help run our programming, special events and team sports. Opportunities range from a dedicated volunteer position to a one-time special event volunteer.
