WALLINGFORD, CONNECTICUT, June 9, 2021 — A production crew from the international public broadcasting series “Travels & Traditions with Burt Wolf” will be on location at Gaylord Specialty Healthcare’s Wallingford headquarters to film an upcoming episode that will air to an international audience of 100 million viewers this fall.
Dozens of Gaylord staff, its former patients and their families will be interviewed throughout the week.
The segment will explore the rehabilitation-focused healthcare system’s innovation, unique patient-centered culture, and its rich 120-year history, from its beginnings as a tuberculosis sanitarium on hundreds of acres of land to becoming one of the nation’s leading rehabilitation-focused healthcare systems.
Gaylord President and CEO Sonja LaBarbera explained that she is thrilled to share Gaylord’s uniqueness and Think Possible culture on a global basis.
“The way the Gaylord team approaches the care of our patients sets us apart. We treat the whole patient, as opposed to a symptom or injury. Our team of experts works collaboratively with patients and their families to set individualized goals and work toward returning people to their highest level of function. People come to us during a very difficult time and we give them back their lives.”
Launched in 1980, “Travels & Traditions with Burt Wolf” is a series of programs that explores cities around the world to present their history, culture, gastronomy and attractions. The series has produced more than 500 episodes to-date.
The episodes are broadcast on Public Television to 90% of the television homes in the United States, then translated into Russian, Polish, Ukrainian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Mandarin and Korean and syndicated to an international audience of more than 100 million.
